Tuesday 14th August
After spending the weekend in London for the men's marathon and closing ceremony we jumped on a flight to split ready to relax for the next 4 days before our sail along the croatian coast.
We arrived at our hostel in split around 5pm dropped our bags and headed for the beach to make the most of the sunny afternoon and warm weather after a lovely dinner by the water we headed back for an early night as we were exhausted from traveling all day!!
Wednesday 15th August
Woke up today bright and early 10am to be exact pretty standard these days haha!! Ready to begin a walking tour of the old tour known as diocleacians palace where an old roman ruler set up his retirement home which then later transformed into a village of housing, shops and restaurants as it still is today.
After walking around in the heat for a couple of hours it was time to head to the beach where we spent the next 5 or so hours until 7 at night and enjoyed a lovely dinner afterwards which was recommend by the hostel. I finally had a chicken Schnizel and it was to die for!!
Thursday 16th August
This morning whilst eating breaky we met 2 girls from the North Shore in Sydney and later spent the the rest of the day with them at the beach at a beautiful bay surrounded by palm trees. After 2 full days we finally have our tans back - you would not believe how brown I am.. We are loving the European sun at the moment as it almost impossible to burn!! We ended up going to the same place as last night as the girls wanted to try it out and it was such good value for great food... Something we find difficult at times!!
Saturday 18th August
A warm and sunny 30 degrees today we packed out bags (again) and headed towards the harbour to find our boat in which we would be spending the next week aboard sailing along the Adriatic coast! We set sail over lunch at 1pm whilst meeting everyone on board and getting to know each other. We soon stopped after a couple of hours in a small town Omis, swam and enjoyed a lovely dinner with people from the boat.
The next 5 days we spent sailing, swimming, sunbaking, reading and eating oh and drinking!!
Along the way we visited towns of makarska where we partied into the night at a cave bar. The next day we stopped at stari-grad a small town on the island of Hvar for a relaxing afternoon and evening before enjoying Captains Grill (a Bbq) on deck. We all needed an early night tonight as tomorrow we were arrived in hvar which is the biggest party island in croatia. We went to a club known as carpe diem which is an open club on it's own private island that you get a water taxi to from mainland. It was amazing! Very cool and I loved the open air as crowded clubs arnt my thing these days! Haha.
Nursing our hangovers we woke to the boat rocking... We had set sail for the island of Korcula for another relaxing night. The next couple of days we stopped at mjlet where we went buggying along a dirt track in a 4 wheeler and enjoyed another
Amazing sunset.
Friday 24th August
We finally arrived in Dubrovnik where we spent the next 2 days looking around the town, getting a birds eye view from cable car to the top of the mountain 405 m high and walked around the city walls... - am amazing but exhausting view... At 7.30 pm at night we were sweating bucket loads but What a beautiful town!!
Sunday 26th August
Today we were up bright an early for our day trip to Bosnia. After driving along the beautiful coast of Dubrovnik we travelled through 3 boarder controls... There is a section of Bosnia on the coast of Croatia that we had to travel through for 10 mins only to go back through Croatia and then finally into Bosnia ... Very strange!!
We stopped at Medugorje - a Catholic pilgrimage town along the way which was filled with locals and tourists as it was a religious holiday!! Very very crowded... And in the middle of nowhere so another strange sight.
Finally we arrived at Mostar the main attraction where crazy locals dive off the stari most bridge 21 meters high into freezing water below... Unfortunately we didn't see anyone jump as they ask for about 30 euros to do so. After checking out the bridge and the local Bazaar (street market) we enjoyed a lovely Bosnian lunch of traditional dishes... Very yummy!! After lunch we stopped at a beautiful waterfall and cave where the freezing river runs through from Mostar.
We have loved Croatia, such a beautiful country. Very much looking forward to Italy where we will spend the next 2 weeks!!
Love Rhiannon and Evan xx
