Tuesday 18th September
Today we left Athens on a midday flight and arrived in Munich around 2.30pm - we flew Lufthansa and to our surprise were treated with a delicious lunch on board... We don't get meals like that with easy jet!!
After settling into our hostel we headed out to explore the town and most importantly to buy my new camera which I am so happy with :) can you notice a different in quality with my photos from before Rome and then Munich?? I hope so!!
Wednesday 19th September
This morning we began with a walking tour of Munich unfortunately it was raining but we didn't get too wet and managed to see the Glockenspiel, all of the main squares, and the beautiful English Gardens with a man made surfing wave. We also learnt so much about the Third Reich period when the Nazis took over which was very interesting.
Thursday 20th September
We had a bit of a lazy morning today and headed to Dauchu concentration camp around midday. After watching a sort film mostly about the liberation of the camp in 1945 we took a 2 hr walking tour. Our guide was exception and for €3 for a 2 hr tour we were wondering why they didn't charge more he was that good. A very interesting and eye opening but sad day here at Dauchu.
Friday 21st September
After spending 3 days looking around Munich we were to begin our Oktoberfest weekend tour with fanatics. Our friends Karen, Dillan and Chris arrived around midday so we set out for the afternoon In search for some costumes for them and then later enjoyed a nice dinner and a few drinks at a local beer garden. It was massive so big it held all 1000 fanatics travelers plus a couple of more thousand.
Saturday 22nd September
The alarm was set for 5.30 am today as we all had to leave the hostel at 7am to join the line for the beer halls. It was raining so not a very nice start but lucky for Evan and I we had kept ponchos in our bags and they came in real handy!! Everyone was very jealous... We finally entered the beer halls at 830am and began the long and tedious wait for the kegs to be tapped at midday!! The build up, anticipation and build up was fantastic and unimaginable. The Rest of the day was spent drinking and dancing on the chairs and tables In the Hofbrauhaus which was jammed packed due to the rain outside. What a day!!
Sunday 23rd September
Cant believe we were set to do it all again... Not so fast though.. We were pretty wrecked from the day before so we didn't make it to the beer halls until 3pm today!! We made it into the lowenbrau after a short wait and the atmosphere was amazing... As the beer was flowing from 10am today everyone was well on their way so we had some catching up to do!! What a fantastic afternoon. We finished off our day with a walk around the grounds and a ride on the swinging chairs 80meters high in the air! Soo scary!
What a week to remember!! We will defiantly be returning next year - the whole experience was amazing and atmosphere crazy! But maybe next year we shall go mid week the crowds were a little too much to handle :)
Love Rhiannon and Evan xxx
