Espana Espana!! What a Spanish fiesta we have had for the last 2 weeks - our relaxing chilled out holiday just got ramped up a few paces and it's all thanks to the Spanish who know how to party!!
We flew into Madrid exactly 2 weeks ago and that's when it all started... After spending our first day site seeing in Madrid we joined a tapas tour to get a taste of the local cuisine; it's very different to The tapas back home. The Spanish tradition is to buy drinks and then in return you receive small amounts of food with them.
The following night we watched the Euro 2012 football final at Real Madrid stadium with a group of Americans training to be Doctors we met at our hostel. They were the funniest group of guys and were certainly not the boring type that you would think being doctors!! The Euro was crazy, Djs were playing at the stadium and there was a mosh before the game even started - it felt like I was at a music festival not a soccer game! The game finally started and after the first goal the cheer was incredible; 3 more goals later and Spain at won!! We then spent th next 1.5 hrs marching down the road with the other thousand of fans to the centre of town there were people everywhere!!
After a crazy night we boarded a train to San Sebastian for a bit of relaxation on the beach before running of the bulls. I got food poisoning from one of the tapas I ate which was a bit annoying as I was sick for almost 2 days :(
From San Seb we made our way to Pamplona to our campsite for the San Fermin running of the bulls festival. The opening ceremony was out of this world thousands of people crammed into a relatively small area of the town hall throwing litres of Sangria over anyone who was white and singing oh lay oh lay oh lay at the top of your lungs is the easiest way to describe the day - something I will never forget.
After an exhausting day we had to get up nice and early to go and watch the bull run from the stands or even earlier 5am for those running it. Evan had made the decision to run the night before only after doing a walking tour of the course and learning all the tricks and tips of where to hide. I was sitting in the stands packing it to say that least but as soon as the gun went off the bulls came through and Evan shortly followed all was well! He had the best experience and I'm very glad he ran and made it out un hurt.
Our next destination was Ibiza this was the last stop of the tour we were on which included running of the bulls. We spent the first day at an island we had reached by ferry the water was beautiful and so warm you could sit it in all day long!! That night we headed to the biggest club in the world which was very cool to experience even thought I'm not that big of a clubber. We spent the next day resting and spent the afternoon at the beach before doing it all again that night.
After 6 days of non stop partying and drinking we were glad to be heading to Barcelona for some relaxation. Although we spent 2 full days site seeing we rested during the night which was lovely. Some highlights of Barcelona include La Rumbla and the massive food market, the gorgeous beaches and ports the Olympic stadium and Museum and the Gaudi cathedral which began construction in 1886 and is still in construction now!! Evan and I declared the best church we had been too and trust me we have seen a lot. Although I was doing some research on Italy last night and I think those churches will soon take over!!
I hope you are all still enjoying reading my blogs this was 2 weeks worth of traveling so a fairly long one!! I will hopefully have some more time to make them more regular and not as long :)
Lots of love Rhiannon and Evan xxx
