Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We decided to take it easy today. We set out at about 9.30am and went first to Barcaldine (10 miles north of Oban) where we went through a Sea-Life Centre - saw seals being fed, looked at sting-rays, anenomes and all sorts of fish close up. It was quite impressive. there was a class there on a school excursion - they were quite well behaved.
We then partially back-tracked. We had stopped at Connel to watch the water under the bridge - it was creating white-water where the loch joined the sea and some canoeists were making the most of it.
We drove down to Inveraray, via Kilchurn Castle (which was not accessible). We bought some chips and chocolates along the way for lunch.
We toured through Inveraray Jail - they have life-like models sitting in on a court case, and also occupying some of the jail cells. One of the "models" turned out to be a real man - he scared the life out of Jessie. The jail was very good.
We walked around the local shops and bought some mustard with whisky at a whisky shop - it was really incredible, they had honey with whisky, haggis, marmalades, cakes - all with whisky, and they had any whisky you could name. We saw t-shirts with "heighlan coos" on them - wish we'd bought them!!!
We then drove back home. We stopped at Kingshouse Hotel and had dinner in the Rob Roy Bar.
The scenery on our trips to and from was beautiful - the lochs, the glens, the burns, the sheep, the "heighlan coos" with their woolly bodies, the stone fences.
Tonight I did - the washing!!!
