Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we got up and were ready by the time the Little Chef opened at 7am. After we left our motel we drove into Penrith to buy petrol and postcards. I bought Shannon and Jess an Advent Calendar each.
We didn't take long to get to Glasgow. We found the 2 street numbers where the Bapties used to live, but both of the original houses are gone!! We were really disappointed. the area where Charles Baptie lived (Buccleuch St) still had some beautiful old houses in it, but a lot were deserted.
After that we went to Lambhill Cemetery. the sections are not marked so we had to drive around to the office at the Necropolis Section. On the way, a garbage truck ripped off our driver's side rear-view mirror - we were not impressed.
We found Section G, and as was fitting with the rest of the day, couldn't find their headstone. Many had fallen over, so that they couldn't be read, and some others were in the middle of rhododendron bushes and couldn't be read!
We went back to the Maryhill shopping centre, had lunch at Macca's (couldn't understand the Scots accent), bought some provisions and then tracked down a Vauxhall dealer where Tom bought a new rear view mirror, and fitted it.
We'd had enough of Glasgow and headed for Monochyle Mhor (our accommodation). The scenery along the way was absolutely magical - so unspoilt and beautiful.
Monachyle Mhor has a country house hotel, as well as the self-catering accommodation out the back, so Tom and I had some after dinner drinks, while the girls watched TV. We have been upgraded to the larger 3 bedroom coach-house - it's beautiful.
