Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Today we set off early and went to Pitlochry - we chose to do this because of the weather (gales and rain in the west). Being central makes planning easier. It was the warmest day we've had yet since we got the Cavalier - 12.5 degrees C!! We went through the Blair Atholl distillery - just us four and our guide (in a kilt!!).
It was quite an extensive tour and we really enjoyed it - I think I understand it better. After the tour we drove off to find Edradour - the smallest distillery in Scotland. We bought Tony a mug, and a miniature for ourselves. It has the smallest setup and the smallest still.
We searched unsuccessfully for a decently priced pub lunch. I think Pitlochry is a bit touristy. So we set off for Stonehaven and had lunch in a pub at Kirkmichael. It wasn't as cheap as the pubs down south. We finally arrived at Stonehaven at about 3.30pm and discovered that the local church is called Dunnottar Church and was built in 1782 - Alexander Murray (Tom's 3xgreats grandfather) was baptised there in 1795!!
We then drove on to Dunnottar Castle - we were losing the light though. It was absolutely stunning and we were sorry we didn't get there 1-2 hours earlier.
We left there at 4pm, with me driving. We went via Dundee, and then swapped drivers at Perth. We got back at about 6.45pm and I cooked omelettes for a quick dinner. We watched The Bill in front of a peat fire with a nice single malt. Bliss!!!
