Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Well, what a day!! Woke at 6am!! Went to their breakfast room for cereal, fruit, buns, croissants, danish pastries and coffee.
We left the hotel before 8am and walked down to Notre Dame. It was very crowded and we decided not to stay for mass. I lit a candle and said a prayer. We were amazed at the size of the cathedral (with TV screens down the sides) and the different areas where you could pray to whichever Saint had a statue there. The stained glass windows were STUNNING.
We then walked from that island, down the Ile de Louis and over to the Bastille area where we caught a Canauxrama canal boat, The ride was lovely - through lots of locks, under lifting bridges, next to bridges that move aside, and through a long tunnel under the bastille. There was even a film crew on one of the bridges that had to stop production while our boat with its loudspeaker commentary went past. The ride took 2 hrs 45 mins (from 10am) and left us up in the NE corner of the city. So we had to conquer the metro. Planning your journey is challenging.
We found our way to the Musee d'Orsay line - on Easter Sunday, we entered 1 1/2 hours later. We saw many art works we recognised, including the original of the print in our bathroom, Les Chaumes de Cordeville by van Gogh! After that we caught the metro back to our hotel. We walked around the corner and bought a crepe each for dinner, then some water and chocolate for tomorrow, and a lovely wrap for me.
