Colleen & Tom's Explorations
So we had a very late start this morning. Leisurely breakfast then we left the hotel at 8.30am.
We had a tour of the city by day with a local guide on the coach. She then took us up the Eiffel Tower with no waiting in line. We were the first ones up after it opened and there was no one else there to start with. The day is very grey and cloudy, so not tempting to photograph. But still lovely to look at. This morning's outing was our last entire group event.
The rest of the group had elected to go on to the Louvre and Notre Dame. We've already been to Notre dame and the Louvres doesn't interest us at all, so we were returned to our hotel so we could explore the local area and go shopping. And find free wifi in Starbucks. Tom walked down the Champs Elysées (street to heaven) to the Arc de Triomphe and climbed the many stairs to the top!
Dinner tonight is Moulin Rouge (which opened in 1889) for those of us participating in this optional tour. We arrived there at 7pm, and the show started at 9pm. In the meantime we had pumpkin soup followed by beans and potatoes with the most tender and flavoursome steak, followed by some creamy chocolate concoction for dessert. This was all accompanied by much wine, water and champagne.
The show was almost two hours of nonstop dancing and entertainment. It was exhausting just watching the girls - and they didn't even sweat!
On the way back our group of eleven shared a coach with another Insight group of 29, and they were a really rowdy mob. Our group was a mixed age group, whereas these guys seemed to all be in their 40s? They had been on a 20 day "Romantic Europe" tour.
We then said goodbye to our Insight family - rather sad. And goodbye to Bob who has taken care of us all this time. From tomorrow we carry our own bags, get our own tickets and get ourselves organised. What a shock!
