Machu Picchu....Wow!!! We felt this was the most amazing day of our trip thus far!
We started our day from Aguas Calientes on a vista dome train ride through the most amazing terrain as we climbed the mountain. We then transferred to a bus for the final climb to Machu Picchu. It is one of the few Inkan masterworks that did not suffer excessive alterations in spite if the passing of time. It was elected as one of the Seven Wonders of the modern world in 2007 and when you visit you can understand why. It was built between 1450 and 1470 and was a multi-functional Inkan city and discovered in 1911. It mainly was a magical and religious nucleus, as well as a great solar worshipping sanctuary.
There was absolutely something amazing when walking among these ruins and unbelievable about the building skills if these people.
We felt so fortunate to have a clear morning for this tour. When we arrived there were a few clouds which cleared and then as we left the clouds moved back in which can be very common. It would have been a great disappointment to have not had a clear day.
Then we had a most fortunate mishap with our return train ride. There was a breakdown and we were transferred to a diner train which offered a gourmet meal with a very fun Peruvian band entertaining. A perfect end to a perfect day!!
