Today we set out from our port to Antigua. As our bus began we were told of an erruption of Fuego Volcan "fire volcano". We proceeded to Antigua passing the volcano that continued to errupt setting off red billowing smoke. Very impressive!
We arrived in Antigua and visited the Central Park and Government Palace. We visited the Church of La Merced and the unique Hotel-Museum Casa Santo Domingo where we enjoyed the most fabulous lunch in their courtyard. The courtyard had hanging canopies of orchids......BEAUTIFUL!! It was a walking tour over cobbled streets with spectacular sights!
On our trip home we were faced with thick clouds of volcanic dust from the morning volcanic activity. Our tour bus was prepared to make an alternate route home but we didn't need to divert.
We loved the city of Antigua and again wished we had more time in Guatamala!
