Today we took a tour of the Sacred Valley. The views of this valley were beautiful and greens with views of the terraces built in this region. We learned about the farming techniques in this mountainous terrain. We stopped in the town of Pisac and learned more about the silver jewelry making and the baby lama wool products.
We then moved on to the Ollantaytambo fortress with 250 steps to the top for an amazing view of the valley. In the Inka period it was a multi functional fortress that was a military, social, economic and religious center. The most amazing thing about this fortress was that the stones for the construction came from a mountain across the valley. An unbelievable accomplishment!
Believe it or not a very popular food in this country is Guinea Pig. We stopped to see the grilling process and all our Peruvian guides seem to like it and prepare it for special occasions. We passed on this tradition!!
We stayed the night in the valley at the beautiful Sol & Luna Hotel. I don't think we have ever had better service than what we have experienced so far in Peru!
