Today was a cruising day which took us to Hubbard glacier. What a beautiful site!! The captain took us amazingly close and turned the ship all around for a great view. Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. It extends 76 miles from Mt. Logan in Yukon Territory. Today we enjoyed the luxurious "Hotel Alyeska". Following a delicious breakfast we took the tram to the top of Mount Alyeska. We had a great view of the valley below and were surrounded by hanging Glaciers. We were able to take a bit of a hike at the top. This mountain is a ski resort and they receive over 900 inches of snow a winter. We left Denali this morning and traveled to Girdwood. It was about a 5 hour trip via coach and it was a drizzly day. We stopped in Anchorage for lunch and then on to "The Hotel Alyeska". On the way we traveled along the Turnagain inlet and had many Beluga whales swimming along side of us as they were migrating. This hotel is rated the best in all of Alaska and I agree. Denali Park is home to North America's highest mountain, Mt. McKinley, towering over 20,300 feet tall. The park is 6 million acres where there is your best opportunity to see Alaska's wildlife. Today we took the "Tundra Tour" taking us 90 miles into Denali National Park. It was a 8 hour tour and we were lucky to see many animals. Today we continued on another "Wilderness Express" train ride to Denali National Park. We had great views of the mountain range again. We have been so lucky! What is to not like about this great train?!?!? The food has been fabulous with narration along the way to explain the beautiful views.
