Randy & Marilyn's Retirement Travels
Historic Skagway allows you to revisit the Gold Rush Era. Gold was discovered in the Klondike region and in 1898 the rush was on. Some of the stores and saloons are authentic in Skagway's historic downtown. We really enjoyed this town and it was a great surprise to walk down the streets and realize it wasn't that long ago that this was a booming town with the gold rush. Thousands of hopeful prospectors set up camp in Skagway.
We took a ride on the White Pass and Yukon Railroad which is considered the "Scenic Railway of the World". We rode in vintage rail cars and retraced the original route to White Pass summit. The views were spectacular and we had beautiful weather for the view.
It was a great day in this unique Alaskan "city".
