Ragstones at Play
Wednesday September 20th and Sunday August 24th
August being the traditional month for holidaying and relaxation, the Ragstones decided that they should join in.
On Wednesday some of the stalwarts set off from Ashford for a MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR. At least one member of the group, when questioned, was unable to say where they had been, except that it was really lovely cycling down leafy lanes in the sunshine. There was an inevitable catch though, they must be back in time for lunch, which was being masterminded by Dydiane with help from Robert and Fatima back at the Ashford Base.
By the time the intrepid few arrived back there were a number of non cyclists, who sensing lunch had joined the party. Great to see Peter S back to eating and Judith back from producing yet another grandchild. A generous and hilarious lunch with plenty of drink and bad jokes (sorry John!) continued until about four o clock or so. Then it seemed most people needed to leave to be back for dinner at home, not for the most part on two wheels though, long lunches and cycling don't really mix.
Then not content with one event, Alan and Val in Wye hosted the Ragstones again on Sunday to a splendid BBQ in their garden. By the time one or two absentees from the Wednesday lunch and some other friends had rolled up Val was catering for 24 guests. Her experience and expertise, however, made this all seem extremely straightforward with perfectly laid tables, lovely food, plenty to drink and that Sunday lunch ambiance, which everyone enjoys.
The only thing she was unable to organise was of course the weather. Earlier in the day it had been sunny and warm, but the afternoon was overcast and a little chilly. Never mind Val and Alan the warmth of your welcome and the general atmosphere plus some more terrible jokes (sorry Alan) ensured everyone's enjoyment and it was six o clock before the guests started to drift away. Only Tim and Sarah had cycled over. We hope they made it safely back, in spite of a long lunch.
All the Ragstones would like to thank their gallant hosts for the lunches and also thanks to other contributors, whose offerings were demolished with glee. Ragstones who don't cycle are more than welcome if they are bearing delicious gifts !!
