Ranthambore- Wildlife in Ranthambore
Ranthambore national park lies 180 kilometres away from Jaipur and the Jaipur airport is the closest airport from the park. It is situated in Sawai Madhopur district, which lies in the southeast of Rajasthan.
Ramthambore is very well-known for the tiger population present there. Other than tigers, the Ranthambore national park also is house to several species of birds. There are around 270 species of birds there. The government of India began Project Tiger in 1973 and assigned an area of 60 mi square to it. This project grew later and became the national park. A lot of tourists mobbed the Ranthambore national park and thus the population of the neighbouring villages also grew. In a census conducted in 2005, there were 26 tigers in Ranthambore national park, which was much lower than a census conducted in 1982, where there were 44 tigers found in the park.
