Jaisalmer - Patwon-ki-Haveli

Jaisalmer was founded by Maharaja Rao Jaisal Yadav , and the town is also named after him. The main havelis in Jaisalmer are Patwon-ki-Haveli, Salam Singh-ki-Haveli, Nathmalji-ki-Haveli and Haveli Shreenath.

Patwon-ki-Haveli is an ornamental 5 storey complex and is very elaborate. Guman Chand Patwa was a Jain and he was very rich because he was a trader as well as a banker. Patwon-ki-Haveli was built over a period of 50 years by Guman Chand Patwa and later by his 5 sons. Out of all the Jaisalmer havelis, Patwon-ki-Haveli is the largest, most intricate and beautiful havelis.
