Ellora- The Hindu caves
There are Buddhist, Hindu and Jain temples and monasteries in Ellora which are cut out of rock. The 12 buddhist caves, 17 Hindu caves and 5 jain caves are built next to each other, so this signifies the religious harmony present at that time.
The hindu caves were built between mid of the sixth century and end of the 8th century. The caves which were built early, were built during the Kalachuri period. The work began in caves 14 and 15 and ended in cave 16. All these caves leave the tourists wonderstruck, as it is an architectural marvel. The caves which were built early were caves 17-29. The first caves on which the work began were caves 28, 27 and 19. Other magnificent caves which were built during the early period are caves 29 and 21. Caves 14, 15 and 16 were built during the Rashtrakuta period.
