Strong winds and heavy rains forecast for today and tomorrow. We decided to hire a car and go sight seeing instead if sailing. There are limited safe ports with safe entry south of here so need good weather window before leaving. We went to Fraserburgh and visited the lighthouse museum. This was excellent and we got a tour of the former lighthouse. The tour guide was the spitting image of Fulton McKay from porridge. He did not like lighthouses, women, the English or fog horns. The lighthouse at Kinnaird Head is one of the oldest, original lit via paraffin. It is now replaced by a smaller new one. We observed the same thing on the most northern tip of the Isle of Mann. It is very strange seeing two lighthouses together. The new ones are much smaller than the old ones. The paraffin burns very brightly and when replaced by electric bulbs the light could only be seen from 18 miles as opposed to 23 miles.
