After a nice cooked breakfast in our hotel room to kick off the morning, we enjoyed a dip in the pool and relaxed before catching a bus down the west coast to a beach called plaka. The beaches are beautiful all along the west coast of Naxos and are by far the nicest ones we have seen on the trip so far!! Once you arrive to Plaka, you are overcome with the beauty of the clear turquoise waters and the golden sandy beaches that stretch on for km's! (Myles and Nina, you were right on how amazing the beaches here are!) We rented an umbrella and chairs at the beach and spent the whole afternoon there soaking in the sun and swimming and cooling off in the clear waters, paradise! We got back to our place late afternoon and got cleaned up to head in to Hora (the main town and port in Naxos) to explore the streets and find a good place to eat. When we got there we went straight to the temple of Apollo which is a stand alone archway on a hill which offers amazing views of Naxos town and the venetian castle along with the coastline and surrounding countryside. We wondered through the old town town through the very narrow alleyways which were surprisingly very quiet compared to the main road along the waterfront. We eventually stumbled upon a great Italian restaurant and had a wonderful meal there. We then wondered up some steep paths and steps and found ourselves at the base of the Venetian castle at the center of the old town. What an awesome view it offers at night and there was a live concert with a solo guitarist playing some fantastic music inside to senerade us while we were checking it out. After exploring the old town we hopped on the bus back to our place in Agia Propkios and called it a night.
