We tackled most of the area north of the Acropolis in the region of Monastiraki which is filled with ancient archeological sites.
Our first stop was to the Roman Agora where you enter through the gate of Athena and explore the ruins left behind of columns, bath houses and the tower of the winds. Lots of this site has been destroyed and leaves lots to the imagination.
We then headed north west and walked through the Monastiraki flea market filled lots of shops and boutiques. We stopped for a quick bite to eat then headed to the ancient agora which is straight west of the Roman Agora.
The ancient Agora is massive and covers an insanely large area. (An agora is a place that acts as a commercial, political and social hub). This site was first built in the 6th cent BC  and changed hands many times and was attacked often until the Roman occupation up until the 2nd cent AD. What's left today is the massive stoa of Attalos the temple of Hephateus along with a church and loads of ruins. We spent a few hours there but you could easily do more.
We then continued west to Keramikos which is an ancient cemetery dating back to the 12th cent BC and used until the early Roman times. There is a small but great museum with lots of sculptures and vases found in the site. This site was also quite large and we had a good walk around.
We ventured back towards the Monastiraki market and had one last look through the shops and then continued on until we hit the northern part of Plaka which is the area our place is in. We walked through the busy streets and grabbed some fresh bread for the morning and headed back to our place to put our feet up for a bit and enjoy a nice cold beer!
After a nice relax it was time to head out for dinner to a place called Mani Mani that we have already scoped out and has come highly recommended. (We tried going yesterday but it was booked out!) But boy are we glad we did! We had a very flavorsim and wonderful meal of traditional Peloponnese cuisine of home made feta and cheese stuffed ravioli, some smoked ham carbonara pasta and moussaka. We then went for a stroll underneath the Acropolis that was lit up beautifully in the night sky and then enjoyed another wine to finish off the evening. (Lots of wine!) Can't wait to see more tomorrow!!
