We arrived in Barcelon Sunday night and it was so refreshing to hear Spanish from the train conductor. I?ve never been so happy in my life to hear the Spanish language. It was a pain getting around in France because neither Sean or I speak any French whatsoever.
Barcelona was nothing like I expected, in a good way. It is much more tropical than I expected, palm trees line some of the streets. Also, the architecture is extremely modern, influenced by the hometown architect Gaudi. The gothic quarter is filled with amazing buildings and any building designed by Gaudi is unique. Barcelona is actually in a valley between mountains, I didn't realize how mountainous the area was. It's a very fun city and much different than what we're used to. Breakfast is very light and lunch (the largest meal) is not until about 3, then dinner is usually between 9 and 11. So it's definitely a fun city for people who like to stay up late. The Sagrada Familia Cathedral shown in the picture for this blog is actually only about half finished, only eight of eighteen towers have been completed with some of the tallest ones still to come. Even uncompleted it is one of the most magnificent buildings I've ever seen, the detail is unbelievable. Barcelona is definitely my favorite city we've seen so far.
