Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
So we've had it pretty good these last couple of days with the boys being occupied with other kids, Sarah & Michael cooking a cake yesterday to share and Kim cooking us pancakes this morning! But we are moving on again, heading to Denham.
We stopped to look at the stromatolites at Hamelin Pool. They look good and it is a beautiful area but we probably didn't appreciate the significance of these lifeforms as much as someone deep into science would. A stromatolite (literally, 'layered rock') is a solid structure created by single-celled microbes called cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). They also make the surrounding water twice as salty as the open ocean.
After finding camp, we took a short drive to Little Lagoon. Almost perfectly circular in shape. this uncrowded area is apparently popular for fishing. I had a go with no bites, just one cheeky fish jumping not far from me, I'm sure just to say 'ha ha here we are'. We then went to Peron Historic Precinct which is an old sheep station. The building is really well displayed with good informative signs on he processes used. We finished it off in the Artesian Hot Tub which was about 40 degrees.
