ok after Fox glacier our intention was to head to a town called Haast thinking there would be loads to do there... HOWEVER, when we finally got there it was like a ghost town with about 30 houses, and even if we did want to do some activities on the lake there we wouldnt have been able to because we couldnt find anybody!!
Therefore we decided to head straight to Wanaka, which was a good choice as its a pretty nice town and the views of the lake along with lake Hawea on the way there were outstanding as the pictures will show! We went to an attraction called Puzzling world which was cool, it has three illusion rooms that really mess with your head. The first one is on a slope but the walls were straight which was really disorientating, then there was one with loads of heads on the wall where the eyes follow you everywhere you walk, and finally there was a room where one end was smaller than the other so when Nick and I stood on there it looked like one was a giant. Apparently this was the illusion they used for the hobbits to look so small in Lord of the Rings.
We did some more walking in Wanaka, were getting into it now, we went up Mount Iron, which was quite a steep grade, and took us a couple of hours round trip but the views from the top were quite amazing as it gave us a 360 degree view. The only let down was the weather... which also let us down again when we were supposed to go Jet boating on the lake and the river but because of the rain they called it off because we wouldnt have enjoyed it. Bit gutted about that!
