After leaving Hokitika we travelled further down the west coast and arrived in Franz Josef, a small town that holds a pretty big glacier! We took a few walking routes to see the glacier from different points and it really is quite big!! We went and watched England play the All Blacks in the rugby on Saturday evening, which was quite embarassing as we got beaten quite badly by them!! Not good!
The next day we headed to Fox, another town further south of Franz Josef which also has a glacier but is alot bigger and much more impressive than Franz Josef, and again we just took walks around the glacier, however it did not stop raining all day so we literally were drenched from the walks, and it didnt help that in alot of the trails we had to jump over rivers with rocks in them that were pretty slippy from the rain! The views at the end however made it complately worth while!!
We took a walk around Lake Matheson after this which was cool as it gave a refelection of the top of the glacier and the mountains surrounding the area. The views here just keep getting better and better, were so glad we decided to rent a car because without it we wouldnt have the opporunities to stop when we wanted to and take a look!
