Woke up this morning around 730am to complete silence and it had been quiet since about 9pm last night - so different from Adelaide Shores Caravan Park! We sat and had a coffee outside and then began breakfast and schoolwork. I took Annie and Jonny into the camp kitchen to cover English (with my poor spelling and English grammar they have no hope!!) while Nick covered Maths with Matty and Katharine. Then we swapped kids. We had an early lunch and then set off to explore the area. The Fleurieu Peninsula is by far my favourite place in SA to date. It has a great coastline, rolling hills full of fruit and veg and a really relaxed, quiet atmosphere. We drove to Victor Harbour and explored the coastline, driving out to the bluff, then we parked the car in town and walked the causeway to Granite Island. We had thought about getting the horse drawn tram over to the island but decided to save money and walk it instead, which was much better as we saw lots of manta rays of all different sizes and a Southern Fiddler Ray! The waters here are home to the leafy sea dragon and Annie thinks she saw 2 or 3 but no one else spotted one. As we reached the island we passed the tram driver who told us to head to the bay as a seal was sunning himself. Sure enough he was still there and he hung around all afternoon. We watched him (and a friend who joined him) for about half an hour and then we spotted a pod of dolphins too! We sat and had ice creams and coffee overlooking the bay and spotted a few more seals - absolute heaven! The kids were allowed to spend some of their money in the gift shop as long as they walked the trail around the island - a 40 minute round trip which was well worth doing as on the other side of the island there were more seals playing amongst the waves crashing on the rocks. On the way home we called in to Goolwa to buy groceries and once home Nick took the kids swimming while I made a shepherds pie using the camp kitchen oven. We ate the strawberries we picked yesterday for dessert and they were awesome. The kids were in bed for 830pm and Nick and I watched a bit of tv before bed. Today was a perfect day - the best so far and probably the only place I would return to so far in SA!!
