Woke up to the sound of rain. Shot out of bed and got the towels in off the line and then had coffee chatting to the neighbours from Vic. This lead to a late start to breakfast and made us almost cancel schoolwork but in the end good sense prevailed and we got stuck in. Katharine has no enthusiasm for schoolwork at all! Only the fear of repeating year 6 and missing out on starting high school with her friends gets her school work out in a morning' and this morning even that wasn't enough - we are only week 2 of term!! As it was due to rain for most of the day we decided to drive around the peninsula and visit Cape Jervis. The scenery around this peninsula is stunning - lots of rolling hills and little villages everywhere. We saw an amazing house on the road to Port Elliott and a great bus sign too (see photos!). It rained the entire day and the clouds moved in blocking the tops of the hills - hard to believe it was 38 here yesterday! We reached Cape Jervis and tried to find somewhere for lunch but it was a dump and tourists must only come here for the ferry crossing to Kangaroo Island. Instead of stopping we drove on to Normanville and found a fabulous cafe that made a very good lunch and great coffee. The drive home was just as picturesque despite taking a different route and we ended up in Victor Harbour just before 4pm - again too late to visit the gift shop for Lampshade's birthday present. If we had had raincoats with us we would have walked the causeway anyway, as we were told people had spotted penguins and leafy sea dragons today - will do it tomorrow instead! Came home to find everything left outside the van, such as our chairs and towels, were soaked as the rain had come in on a slant. Forced everyone to eat my lasagna for dinner and then an early night all around, seeing as we are finally adapting to SA time and the kids are waking earlier in the mornings.

Lamp Shade I can't believe you had to force them to eat lasagna. I love lasagna!
Chef extraordinaire Story of my life Lampy xx
(Long-suffering) Husband of Chef extraordinaire Hi Lampy, calling it a lasagna was a stretch; calling it food was a stretch. The kids are used to better fare - I normally cook.
