The problem with staying in a lot of little fishing villages is that your neighbours get up at the crack of dawn to go fishing - and they don't do it quietly!! As we pull up into a caravan spot we can hear our new neighbours groan as they see 4 kids climb out the car - well we groan when we pull up next to a tinny!! Needless to say, we were woken up at sparrows so had coffee, breakfast and packed up. Today was a longer driving day as heading to the Yorke Peninsula. We had considered taking the car ferry over but it was too expensive (about $500) to only save us a couple of hours. The drive was not a pretty one and the towns we passed through where all very industrial. At Port Augusta (a dump!) we stopped for fuel and lunch - Hungry Jacks (!) and made it to Moonta Bay just before 3pm - only 5.5 hours in the car but we were beginning to get snakey. We had only planned one night here as the park is expensive at $66 a night (the cheapest we've had to date is $45 and there is nothing to distinguish the difference in price) but once we had set up under a pine tree over looking the bay, none of us could be bothered to explore in the car so we booked in for a second night. The bay is long and stays shallow for a long way. The tide was out when we got here, leaving lots of rock pools for the kids to play in so we had coffee and Christmas cake while they went off exploring. It was also hot today and the water was really warm so we all went for a swim - so far each place we have stayed in has built a swimming enclosure off the jetty with nets around the outside reaching the ocean floor. I'm not sure why they do it unless it is to give you access to a deeper swimming area, as it takes too long to wade out. Anyhow, we all went for a swim in the enclosure and the kids loved it - there are pontoons to jump off etc! By 630pm it was still hot and Nick had to duck into town for groceries that I had forgotten. Everyone had a shower and I cooked pasta. We sat outside and watched an awesome sunset and then the kids went inside to watch a movie while Nick and I read outside. The kids are finally all getting along really well - maybe because we haven't run into any other kids at the last few stops so they have to depend on each other for entertainment. We did a toilet run before bed and it's a pleasure to do as the stars are amazing here!!
