Katharine woke up at 4am frozen and so climbed into bed with us - it was like cuddling up to an ice block! Went back to sleep until about 7 and then got up for coffee. Nick did the breakfast marathon while I began researching places to stay in Victoria. While checking out the caravan parks along the Great Ocean Road, we got an email stating we had won 10 days at half price for a park in Apollo Bay that we had bid for on a site called Travel Auctions! Spent the morning doing schoolwork on the picnic mat in the sunshine and then had an early lunch. We decided to spend the afternoon exploring Beachport, which was about half an hour away. We saw an echidna on the way and once there, took the Bowman scenic drive out to the conservation park and explored all the small bays. The kids loved surfing down the sand dunes and it would have been easy to spend the afternoon there but the March flies were shocking - luckily I had jeans on!! We called in to the tourist information centre and picked up some brochures for Victoria and then drove on to Millicent, a fairly large town with a Woolies. We stocked up on groceries and headed home. We had just made coffee when a WA family we met in Adelaide arrived. The kids were over the moon and ran off to play. Nick made a curry for dinner and the evening was spent packing up bits and pieces and making sure we were ready for a week of free camping (hopefully!) The plan is to find a free camping spot in Lower Glenelg National Park tomorrow and use it as a base to explore some of the Great Ocean Road. We may not have internet access and so it may be a while before we can blog again!
