Jonny woke up early needing the toilet and so got Nick out of bed. Once up, he decided to head into town and empty our toilet at the dump point there to prepare for Victoria, as we've heard there aren't many dump points in Victoria. I had a shower and started to pack up and we were doing really well until we got chatting to the neighbours, which delayed us a fair bit! We were on the road by 10am and reached Nelson around 12. The drive was quite pretty once we'd gone through Millicent and we were very pleased to cross the Victorian border - we've had enough of SA at the mo! We stopped at the tourist information centre in Nelson and picked up a map of the Lower Glenelg National Park. We also asked about free campsites but there are only 2 official ones and both are small and on either side of the park. With multiple vans in the tourist information parking lot we didn't like our chances but decided to give it a try as the day was still early. We headed into the park through Nelson and soon hit trouble. The road was sand and boggy and not doable with our van. We turned around as soon as possible but very nearly got bogged and cursed the national park as there were no signs or markings on the map to say the road wasn't sealed - until you'd driven down it!! We decided to approach the camp site from a different entry point and before we knew it we were heading back into SA! We passed through a lovely little village called Donovans, which is on the banks of the Glenelg River, and got held up for a while as there were cows on the road. Our campsite was not much further on and was on a sealed road. As you drive down the road you reach the river and there are about 5 fishing huts built along the bank and a boat ramp. There is a turning circle at the end of the road with a massive tree stump in the middle of it and camping can be done in any spot along the sides of this road. Initially we couldn't see a flat enough spot for the van but a guy moved his boat trailer and we grabbed that spot. There are 2 other campers here and one couple had explored the park and come back to this spot as it was the best! The other camper has a beautiful blue heeler called Turbo and the kids threw sticks for him all afternoon. We set up camp and decided to spend the afternoon doing nothing. We could use the generator and so put it on several times to make coffee and use the water pump for dishes and showers. We all went to bed as it got dark around 8pm and Nick and I watched a movie on the computer. It's a great camp but the only drawback is that cars come down at all hours to put their boats in and out of the water, even after dark. Its also still in SA as we can see a sign further down the river welcoming you to Victoria!!
