Wayne's & Bonnie's Travels
We arrived at Heathrow in the morning and went through immigration and customs with no issues. Sure is a huge airport. We then found where to pick up the bus to take us to Victoria station where we would get the train to Dover. It was a large double decker bus and we sat in the upper level to see the sights. Driving on the left seemed very strange to both of us. When we got to Victoria station we found lockers where we could store our luggage for a few pounds. We had a folding cart that held our 3 bags which made lugging our bags much easier. After confirming the train schedule for the train to Dover (late afternoon) we proceeded to do some sightseeing. We were both exhausted but we could not pass up the opportunity to see some of London. We started to walk towards Buckingham Palace and as luck would have it, we got there just as they were changing the guards. The crowd was huge but we could get a good view of the impressive ceremony. We then headed for Piccadilly Circus, passing some other palaces and Harrods department store. Piccadilly Circus was crowded and a little dirty but we did find restrooms. We wandered around a little more and decided we were too tired to do anymore. We headed back to Victoria Station, retrieved our bags and got on the train to Dover where we would board the ship in the morning. I thought we should catch a cab to our hotel but Bonnie thought we could walk it. Little did we realize that the sidewalks were cobblestone and hilly. We both stated laughing about how silly it was but we did make it. We checked into the hotel and then went to explore Dover. It is a quaint coastal town with lots of pedestrian walkways. We were hungry and found an Italian restaurant that looked good. To our surprise the spaghetti was among the best we have had. We were exhausted and decided it was time for bed.
