I know this site isn't the easiest if you are trying to read my posts chronologically. You can visit my other blog (sorry there's isn't much on there yet) to find out the order: http://lifeandtimesofb.blogspot.com
On Saturday Karen and I rode our bikes on a bike route in Gallatin. We started at the Avondale Recreation Area and followed the bike symbols through a neighborhood, past Johnny Cash's house, through Trinity Broadcasting Network's grounds (used to b Twitty City), past Hendersonville First Baptist, out to Gallatin Road, and back down Shute's Lane to Avondale. We noticed that there wasn't a turn symbol at Shute's Lane and neither of us had ever biked the whole thing before. We did see a symbol where the big curve in the road was, so we decided to follow it backwards to try to find the real genesis of the route. We wove up and down hills throught the neighborhoods and past Rehoboth UMC on Cages Bend. We came out on Gallatin Road at Douglas Bend. The trouble with biking backwards was that we ended up having to cross Gallatin Road twice, but it's good training for the race which will be downtown. We biked 15 miles!
Today we went downtown and scoped out the area around our transition area. This will be our headquarters for the day, and any spectators can watch from closeby. The transition area is in the park across from the Country Music Hall of Fame. We were told that they often incorporate their sponsors into the race, so we located the Greenways, Moe's, and Jack's BBQ. We also drove around to get a visual on some of the landmarks. My team members will probably rely on me for some of the navigating since Karen just moved here a year ago from Kentucky and Isaac grew up in Westmoreland. We feel pretty good about our knowledge of the area. We are also allowed to use GPS and internet phones in the race. My mom let us borrow hers, but we can't charge it since we don't have the base (Mom is having fun in CA right now!). Isaac is back in town now, so we should have some good team trainings this week.
