Had a weird sleep as was not tired, jet lag was not that bad thankfully so this morning we all woke up at 8 clock to have shower, OH MY..I squealed so bad as the water was so freezing. I started to feel more negative but that was to be expected as it is a huge challenge for me to do this trip, so I had to stay strong.
We all went to a place called Rawina's Hotel - we all had training til lunch.. we had 'devilled' chicken, I seriously could have cried if I ate one piece of chicken..but I didn't thankfully. I opted to eat the rice only. We had vanilla ice cream at the end which is lovely. Then we all went for a swim outside but it was really hot, so I stayed in the shade whilst everyone else was sunbathing (YES YES IM A GOOD GIRL) and Rosie joined in, we chatted about ourselves, I felt comfortable talking to her and she really understood about deaf awareness etc, which was so helpful.
Later on in the eve, we had new sims cards for our phones, I couldn't wait to contact my family as I was missing them more than I expected. The deaf volunteers and Sophie went to food city to get some things. OH and Sophie phoned my bank, all my money is sorted so withdrawned some money!
When I returned to the homestay, to find my video camera cracked..I lost it, tears came, could not stop crying.. It was about time I let it all out. I slept that night good, as I was tired from being upset.
On the wednesday..it was my baby sister's birthday..so I tried to text her, it failed..and many texts I try to send have failed and they still charged me!!! So I got upset again, it was really emotional first few days. Over breakfast we had bread and butter, it was so weird..not sure if I like it. The butter was the exactly same as I have in France. The deaf volunteers group went to the school where I and Sara will be working at. The journey was 43 rupees and it was 90 minutes. Which I was not really happy about as it is the furtherest place out of all apparently.
So when we arrived, we met the headmaster, he was so lovely - so welcoming so I felt better, and the children kept coming and asking questions. Already I felt better and so excited to start teaching. We then left to meet the hearing volunteers at the youth centre so we arrived a bit earlier so we had a stroll around the shops. Bought myself a trousers, a loose sri lankan's trousers. :) Had a bite to eat in a cafe, then met up to return to the homestay, I felt like s*** when I was back.. the dinner was..just didn't suit me is a polite way to say this. I did not like it at all so I was hungry all night.
Thursday was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had more training, we all really got involved in activity, discussions which was great fun. After meeting the director of the youth centre, Sara, Sandra, Frankie, Duffy, Stephen, Sophie and I went to Mount Lavina's hotel, for a swim where you pay 1000rupees which is like 5pounds for the pool as long you want. It was SO beautiful. The people were all white, I was so surprised as I have not seen any in Sri Lanka apart from the volunteers! We stayed there and watched the sunset.. we all head off for a meal at the poori hut.. we arrived to find it was shut. -.- so we all had to get tuk (taxi - three wheelers - crazy seriously) to pizza hut!!!! Had the most amazing meal that I slept like a baby.
I then packed excitely for the Jungle weekend!
