This morning we all headed off to Kegalle to go to Millennium Elephant Foundation so we were all excited as we haven't really been up close with elephants. I have few times with the elephant Wendy at the Bristol Zoo but this was very different so I was really looking forward to the visit. I had my bikini underneath my clothes ready for the bath time with the elephant. So we went in the car for an hour and half journey which took really quickly as it was a car, we have been travelling in bus and tuk which takes forever so we were feeling really weird to be travelling in such a luxury way.
When we approached the drive way of the elephant foundation, I was really excited and there were quite many other of visitors then at that point I realised the elephant we are going to ride on probably have had more than 10 people on her back, so I felt extremely bad for the elephant and the fact the elephant was chained up.
When we paid and met our cute elephant who was 48 years old, she was massive and I was a bit scared! I refused to go to the front so Sara was at the front, and I sat in the middle whilst Stephen was at the back. Oops, the middle seat was hell as it was largest part of her body and being the smallest person so my legs were spread out like mad. So I seriously suffered all way through the ride and afterwards. I was terrified as Sara was only the person who has support if she felt unsafe and I didn't. So I held on Sara, which I have apologised for but she said it was ok and I felt better when Sara was really relaxed so I enjoyed the ride even more.
I was stunned how beautiful the elephants were, so sweet and then I was able to sit on the elephant alone to go in the lake. So I was really excited and when we were in the lake. The elephant splashed me few times with the water through her trunk, I really enjoyed it and I then noticed the marks around the elephant neck from the chain..I felt SO SAD. I rubbed the elephant neck and she flapped her ears, I melted inside a little and I know this sounds really soppy! When I got off and tried to walk, I couldn't for few seconds as I was really sore! But so worth it and I was feeling so great.
The guide man took many excellent pictures and he also videoed me in the lake! Which is more than I expected! After having a quick wash, we went in a small museum where they explained why the foundation was set up, what they do and also showed some bones of an elephant. It was so big that I thought 'thank god the elephant did not decided to throw a tantrum and then squash me' as I would die on the impact.
It was interesting and the shop was a bit disappointing as they didn't really sell anything that was related to the elephant so I didn't get anything.
This trip has been amazing!

Glad you had a wonderful time there, i guess those places depend upon tourism to continue their work. Seeing the chain marks on such a wonderful animal must have been heart wrenching....humans eh?
