We all arrived at Aluthgama bus station quite late as our journey took longer than planned which was annoying and it was quite empty when we arrived so I didn't feel safe. We couldn't see any guesthouses so we talked a tuk man and showed him our Sri Lanka guide book of recommendations of hotels. We chose Hotel Hemadan and it was quite a bit costy but we were aware as this location is known as expensive. So we went in our room and we couldn't believe how nice it was, large beds, nice clean bathroom and a balcony!
We then went down and had late dinner. Ordered an omelette and then I realised our hotel was right by the lake! It was so beautiful. We then had shower and went to bed.
On Saturday we woke up and had breakfast, as it was included in our price. We were provided tea, orange juice, fresh pineapple and bananas. Then toasts with our choice of eggs so of course I chose fried eggs! It was lovely, and we were excited to go to the beach. The hotel provides a free boat shuttle over the Bentota beach so we asked for one. The boat man then told us he could do a tour across the lagoon and we haggled the price. So we got on the boat for our two hours tour, the first thing we saw was a crocodile! It was two and half metres long, I was so scared that I hid behind Francesca! The crocodile horror films didn't do me any good! The tour was beautiful and we saw many of different species of birds which I didn't find interesting but there was one bird that I really liked as it was really brown but when it flies.it was blue! BEAUTIFUL.
We stopped by a little house where we could hold a baby crocodile, I was being such a wimp and was so tense when I held it. Then I realised the guy who gave me the baby crocodile was touching my bum, I mean proper touching it so I was like mouthing to Francesca 'HE IS TOUCHING ME' and she looked a bit nervous as she was next! So I end up giving it back to him and then proceeded to see him touching Francesca and Sara. He looked like 15 years old boy. We couldn't really get angry or anything, we don't know what would happen really so we kept quiet and then left. We carried on across the lake and went into lots of trees, roots.. was amazing then we made a stop at coconut factory which was interesting. I didn't realise that many things we got was made by coconut!
We then were dropped off at Bentota beach as we were starving and we were so surprised to find it was ONLY BEACH. No cafes or places to sit so we asked around where the town was, we then walked for few minutes to go to the town and to our pleasure there was a restaurant so we ordered some food.
It started raining so we decided to go back to the hotel as we couldn't find any cheap places to stay in Bentota so we decided to stay one more night at the same hotel. We got on the boat back, along with Stephen and then I had a little nap.
We all then went out for a meal which was just lovely and we ended up talking about horror films. Then suddenly I saw a bright white circle light approaching at us, and it passed by so fast. It was a train, we didn't realise the train tracks were right bang next to the place where we were eating. We all got scared!! It was a lovely evening.
A definite visit if people are considering visiting Sri Lanka.
