This afternoon we all travelled to Jungle weekend which was in Kitulgala, in a minibus and it was an enjoyable journey as I looked out of the window the whole journey. I've seen many of different trees, birds, houses, people and some crazy lorries.
After two and half hours we finally arrived, the girls had two rooms. One bedroom could fit 7 people in so I had the single bed, whereas Sara & Francesca shared a double, we also shared with Emma, Lucy, Rosie and Beth (hearing volunteers). The room was lovely, bathroom was very clean so we were all feeling happy. The four boys had one bedroom further away, nearer the lake and we were all happy to be there. It was really hot so we were allowed to go in 'natural pool' which is just a lake, was so refreshing and beautiful scenery as we were so hidden in the jungle.
We then all had shower, and pampered ourselves for our BBQ dinner. I really hoped it wouldn't be spicy as I am struggling with the spicy food. THE FOOD WAS NOT SPICY!! We ate lots of food, had some drinks and there was a bonfire along with some fireworks. It was just beautiful.
Later on in the evening, we all played a game called 'I never' which was hilarious as we also found out some secrets of people...Some were so shocking..there was lots of laughter. It was a night where all the volunteers merged together.
I then noticed it was 2am, we had to be up early for breakfast and the white water rafting early so I sneaked off to bed and snoozed off.
We woke up at 8am to find out we had eggs for breakfast, we were all elated then I realised it was cold eggs so I opted to eat toast only and there was a white guy there who gave us PEANUT BUTTER!!
We got ready for the white water rafting, it was really hot so we had swimwear under tees and shorts. As we had to cover ourselves up. I slapped lots of sun lotion as I knew I'd be burnt like bacon if I didn't. We had to sit in an open van, it was lots of fun and beautiful sightseeing!
We were given life jackets and helmets upon on the arrival.
We had to walk down for few minutes which felt like forever as the steps were so narrow..slipped few times but when we got there, the deaf volunteers had the first boat and I was so nervous!!!!
We all climbed in, along with Rosie and off we went.
It was great fun until the accident happened, the boat almost flipped over but we got caught by a rock so the boat bent in half. I saw Francesca falling away hitting many rocks along with rough current, and Sara saw Sophie being stuck in between of two rocks so she pushed her away with her paddle to set her free as her head was under the water. I and Sara held on the boat whilst Duffy was behind me. Then I realised Rosie was really panicking, trying to grab anything she could..her leg was stuck between boat and the rock. She was literally drowning, so the guide man tried to pull her up, it was impossible so Duffy tried to help..but he end up falling away too. Sara and I thought Stephen was at bottom of the boat so we were so worried, but Stephen was with them, all safe so when Rosie got freed, we all sat on a rock...I was slipping...Sara held on me for a bit before many more guys came to help us. Rosie was in pain, her leg/ankle was swollen so she was sent off to see a doctor whereas me and Sara had to carry on our white water rafting journey.
It was still lots of fun, but it was a shock but everyone was ok at the end.
We got back and got ready for trekking..It was hard work, so hot and I had swimsuit underneath so I was sweating like a waterfall, not nice at all. After an hour or more of trekking, we arrived a beautiful area, but the weather rapidly changed..into tropical storm literally, raining like mad so I decided to not to rock sliding and confidence jumps. As Stephen slipped and hurt his knee. Sophie slipped and banged her head. Knowing me as a clumsy girl, so I was best off watching...Will and others told me to be careful when I was crossing two rocks..I slipped, and banged my elbow. So I was definitely not doing them. It was pouring down with rain so I was so soaked.
When we were all finished, we started to walk back..on a flat surface..why hell didn't we go there in same way?! Less injuries! -.-
There was a wild dog barking at us, or growling I don't know, so I was freaking out...I couldn't get past, so when Lucy and Kirsty saw, they must have told Will to come, as he came running to our rescue! The dog did end up running away and Will ended up slipping which was so funny.
We all had dinner again, and headed off bed as we were all tired. Poor Sara, she went back to the bedroom to find her Iphone stolen and she decided to sleep on it. Next morning, she told Sophie that we all think it is the doctor or one of his sons as they were in our room sorting out Rosie's ankle and Sophie's head. Sara hid her Iphone under a magazine, but unfortunately Mr Neill took it to put it under Rosie's leg, without realising Sara's Iphone was on the show. So it got stolen. So Mr Neill was going to sort it out.
We all did teamwork activity, did zip wire; the ladder was crazy as when I was climbing, I had to really stretch my legs and arms as it was so far apart in between. I stopped and wanted to get off but the encouragement I had helped me to finish it off. Then we all did teamwork, games and it was really hot so I was really sweating..I was getting fed up as felt dizzy.
When we were all finished, we all got ready to go back to the homestay..when suddenly the place's manager came with Sara's Iphone, he had confronted the doctor's sons..it was the youngest son who was 10 years old who had stolen the phone. So Sara was so overjoyed!!
Our journey back home was a bit depressing as we didn't want to go back! When we all arrived, we found out that Amma was feeling ill (the mother of the house) so we all went to KFC for dinner. I had pink chicken so I didn't eat, starved myself that evening and had lots of bread in the morning!!
