We have been here in Lucca for a while now. We fill in our days meditating, exercising, reading, writing our journal and going for walks. We are at the foot of some mountains, so there is ample opportunity to go bush walking, but most days we just walk the local streets. Most days are clear with blue skies, but daytime temperatures are usually between 9 and 13, but some days it doesn't get above 7. Most nights are around minus 2, but we have had as low as minus 6! We wake most mornings to see a very good covering of frost or fog and when we walk in the afternoon it is not unusual to see frost and ice in areas that are shaded from the sun. The place we are staying in is a nice little two story villa, fortunately it has a wood heater that we have burning most days and at night we use the gas heater after we go to bed. The gas is VERY expensive, we would use it more if it were affordable. Julie has taken up drawing again and has done some lovely drawings of the resident cats, an old wagon and me, plus some other stuff for practice. Finally it would appear that the locals have stopped burning off their leaves and prunings, so the air is starting to clear and we can see the surrounding mountains, none of them have snow on them yet, but they are lovely to look at and there have been some days when it looks as if there is some snow on the tops. They salt the roads around where we are because of the frost and ice, we are not very keen on the idea of riding on these roads while there is a chance of ice, so have not been out on the bike since we arrived here on the 20th of December, giving the bike and our bums a well deserved rest.
