We travelled about 3hours in land over the mountains and down into the outback. Apparently without the Mt Morgon mountains no one would be able to live in Australia because there would be no rainfall and the only water you can get in the outback is from a massive underground water basin where the water takes 2 million years to filter through. When we got there we had lunch an were given the option to don a cowboy hat and a neckerchief. If we didn't wear the hats we were called city slickers and had to pay more for drinks at the bar. After changing into the correct attire we went off to get assigned a horse ready for the goat muster. We all got given a horse based on our ability as a rider. Even though I've never ridden a horse before I was given Alfonzo, who was a bit of a pimp and had 5 girlfriends,he was very protective over them and didn't really like any of the other horses. Mel was given Bonnie who just kept shaking her head around and wouldn't stop eating. There was a group of about 30 of us and we all set off to find the goats, round them up and put them in a pen. All in all it took us an hour and a half to get the god dam goats in their pen, all the while Alfonzo loved biting and kicking the other horses. As we headed back to camp we took a detour though a river and round some woodland. I was trying to keep a bit of distance between Alfonzo and the other horses when we came to a hill which he decided to leg it down and up the other side in pursuit of the other horses. I nearly came off but it was all good fun. After we put all the horses away we went back up to the goat pen and they taught us how to use a lasso ready for the competition later. We had to go into the pen in teams of three, lasso a goat, catch and hold it in place while we pretended to brand it, the quickest time won. I was the lassoer and it didn't go to well so we didn't win. After the rodeo it was back to have some bush nibbles which was goat, i wasn't a fan but Mel on the other hand quite liked it. I much prefered the roast beef dinner we had for the evening meal. When we had all finished the food everyone sat round the camp fire and Alan the owner told us a bit of history about the farm and how it all works, then proceeded to teach us how to crack a whip. You had to make the tip of the whip break the sound barrier in order to produce the cracking sound, it's not as easy as it looks and it took me quite a few attempts to "crack" it. After all that exercise it was time for a well earnt pint. The last activity of the day was a Bucking Bronco competition which I was quite good at but only good enough for second place, still it was better than Mel's attempt she managed to last a whole 3 seconds! After a few bottles of wine we went off to bed ready for the early morning start with a proper cowboy breakfast of beans (aka Kroombit caviar) on toast cooked over a fire with coffee from a billy can. We very nearly decided to stay for a while and work at Kroombit as it counted as part of the visa work and all the staff said it was so much fun, but we had already booked some busses and things so we gave it a miss. It's also unpaid work and we want to earn some money, so back to the coast and Emu Park for us.
