We had been told not to bother going to Hervey bay as there wasn't a lot to do there, but seeing as we had seven weeks to get to Sydney we thought we'd give it a try and we actually really liked it. We stayed at a hostel called Flashpackers which was one of the best hostel we have stayed in. It had free breakfast, free wifi, free DVD hire and cinema room with a huge projector and two pillows to each bed!! Every other hostel we have stayed in has one extra thin pillow per bed. It was about four hours from Agnes water on the greyhound and we got there around 2pm. We didn't really do a great deal that day, just played in the pool and watched a film. The hostel was putting on a free sausage sizzle that night so that was our food sorted for the evening. The next day we hired a bike each and had a ride around town, there was a 800m long pier and a marina we looked round. Then we stopped for some lunch we had a huge pizza between us with 10 different toppings! And a milkshake each, so it isn't surprising we couldn't manage the whole pizza so we saved it for later then headed back to the hostel. The owner told us about a bat colony that lived up the road from the hostel so later that evening we rode up to check them out. We saw an amazing sunset but no bats, i think we left a little early only because we were getting eaten alive. We did see some on the way back though. It would of been nice to spend a little longer in Hervey bay but the weather is taking a turn for the worst so we decided to move on down to Rainbow Beach and do our Fraser Island tour while it's still nice weather.
