The first stop was at the north western corner of Zion. This was just a small amount of what we would see the next day. We got there and drove up to Kolab Canyon that evening before going to the main part of the park tomorrow.
I keep saying that just one more hill or mountain should not be that different and God keeps showing me how artistic and imaginative he is. These red mountains that just rise from the ground with flat tops are amazing and not like anything we have seen yet. I have taken several pictures, but they just don't do it justice. In order to actually see this huge mound protruding from the earth I have to zoom with my camera and then you lose the whole magnitude of just how large these mesas are. I have to say I felt like I had walked onto the scene of some cowboy movie and could see the Indians on a cliff waiting for the stagecoach to come through. I cannot imagine what the first people out here thought. But I guess the names they give the different cliffs and rises give you a clue, almost all are named after Bible characters or Indian gods. It is certainly a feeling of being small in God's big world.
When you go to Zion, since it is the most visited park in Utah you have to take a shuttle. There is only one road through the main part of the park and not many turn outs for sight seeing. Therefore, everyone has to ride the free shuttles and hike to any sites off the main road. Larry and I fit in 2 hikes that day, both were a couple miles each.
Our campground here was very nice too. Leads RV park was nice, it had a great place for the dogs to run and actually had grass. It was still kind of hot here but not unbearable as we were at about 6000 feet above sea level.
