We saw the Rocky Mountains and were amazed at the size. Then we took a day trip from Yellowstone to The Grand Tetons and saw just how tall a mountain could be.
The Tetons are unique because there are no foothills. There is this huge multi mile wide valley and then these huge mountains just rise from nowhere. Scienfically, this is where 2 tectonic plates come together and the valley plate is sliding under the mountain plate just making them even taller. If you look at the mountains it is mid August and there is still snow and you could even see a glacier at the top of the tallest.
These mountains were first found and named by a french explorer who had been away from home way too long. Look up what the original name meant and you will see what I mean.
One of the highlights of the day was getting to see the grizzly bear and her 2 cubs. We were safely in our car and she was about 50 feet away.
I cannot end this post without praising God for the beauty he has allowed us to see. We have been blessed with beautiful weather, amazing scenery, and most of all covered by his hand of safety in each step we have taken..
