Canyon Lands was amazing in its own way. I mean we were up very high, about 6000 ft above sea level and we looked at canyons. It was a really nice day though, on our way up a huge thunderstorm came through and dumped lots of rain and hail on us. By they time we got to the trail we wanted to hike the rain had stopped and the temp. was about 75 and sunny. Could not have asked for a better weather day to hike a few miles.
One thing that has followed us all the way from southern California is the dust. The wind is always blowing out here, I would say there is nothing to stop it but that is not true, there are mountains and valleys everywhere, but they still have a lot of wind. This wind blows a lot of dust around since they get a limited amount of rain. You have to take a bath often just because your skin is covered in dust, even if you did nothing that day.
Also, I am afraid to say anything for fear of jinxing us but, we have made this whole trip (and this is our 40th day) and not had to sit in traffic for more then about 5 minutes at a time and not very often at that. There has been lots of road construction where they have the interstate down to one lane each way but we have been fortunate enough to just go with the flow, adjust lanes and keep moving. This is an amazing gift from God all on it's own.
Now I want to explain that last picture in the Canyonlands group. When we were at Yellowstone, in every women's bathroom there were signs (with diagrams) that told you not to squat on the toilet and how to sit properly on a toilet. (with diagrams). I discussed with Larry, who we thought these signs might be for. What nations have women that squat to go to the bathroom? (I mean, first off, if I did that, I would have a hard time getting back up, and I am sure my clothes would end up wet) Anyway, we went on with our trip and did not give it much more thought. Then we get to Canyonland and there were lines waiting for the bathrooms. One of the restrooms had a sign that told it had a squatter, so I of course got in that line to see what it looked like. Now you too can see that from my picture. Who knew there were special squatter bathrooms! I did not use, it just took a picture!
