The frogs or toads croaked all night until the birds started singing, including a cuckoo. The morning is much cooler than recently and patchy clouds cross the sky.
Yesterday Ali picked up leaflets showing walking and cycling routes around the area and she is a bit miffed this morning when Grete appears saying how lovely it was, having gone off without thinking to ask if Ali was going.
Just before leaving Ali goes in to leave a thankyou note but the owners are there anyway.
We ride out past fields of horses and lots of charolais cattle, on through rural countryside to Autun where we stop for Grete to shop.
From Autun we take a long scenic route through the forests of the Morvan natural park. Although it's a bit bumpy it is very attractive, travelling through tall fragant pine woods and little hamlets with houses covered in flowers, and past lakes.
Late afternoon we arrive at Lac les Settons and find space in the aire right on the edge of the lake although we cannot park side by side.
It's very tranquil looking across the lake with trees all around. Ali takes a walk over to the barrage then we have a restful time until supper; prawns and white wine.
As dusk falls there are a few rumbles of thunder and showers.
We ring Michael and Chris who have reached France in their boat and make arrangements to meet them at the seaside next week, then with that sorted we plan stops for the last few days with Nick and Grete.
