Yet another warm day but much fresher.
Ali and Grete go into town again for another look around while the Nicks do a couple of maintenance jobs. We have lunch and a couple of lazy hours. We would have been content to stay here again tonight but Grete is determined to move on. There is a passion 18 miles away which is not too far.
We travel part of the same route we did last year on our way to Beaune, stopping in Cormartin for a brief look at the chateau but without the time to visit.
Leaving the main road we follow narrow country lanes passing fields of Charolais, to Culles les Roches and find the passion, Domaine le Gregoire. Initially there is some confusion over where to park so we wait in a lay by opposite the farm entrance. A German van joins us and a bit later the owner arrives and confirms we are parked correctly.
There are beautiful views across the valley to the little red-roofed village and surrounding vineyards. We are shaded by trees and bird sing and cicadas chirp all around.
Pascal and Isabel own 12 hectares producing Aligote, Chardonnay, Bourgogne and Pinot Noir. Their tasting measures are generous and the tasting room is nicely done with barrels and tables. Degustation lasts over an hour.
Ali cooks turkey escallope with saute potatoes and ratatouille.
As the light fades the birds all go quiet but then frogs or toads start croaking.
