We're up fairly early this morning, after two days stationary lots of things need putting away properly and it all takes time.
As there is a tap on the pitch we plan to fill with water here then drop the waste at the point by the exit, but despite a box of adapters, this site has taps with parallel-world threads so it gets done by filling the jerry 5 or 6 times and pumping it in. We finally check out just before 11:00, not certain of tonight's stop but with a France Passion olive farm programmed in.
A quick stop at a Netto shop on the outskirts of Ollioules for milk and bread and we're on our way down the A50 towards Toulon. Can't say much about Toulon, the motorway traverses the city underground. The long tunnel surfaces and merges with another road to become a 4 lane weaver bird's paradise and stays busy but slow where it diverges to Hyeres. A few miles on we take the 559 coast road along the start of the cote d'Estoril.
This picturesque ride follows the coastline, up and down through sand pines with views of jade and torquoise waters in limestone inlets. Villas and mansions with don't look price tags sit tucked behind railings. Now and then we whiff scented plants like mimosa through our open windows.
We see our first olive trees of the trip before the turning for the olive farm comes. This is quicker than expected, showing 26 miles up into the winding hills and no real advantage for making up miles so we continue with the coast road knowing there are a few aires and campsites if required.
Nearing St Tropez the commercialised seaside begins. Wide beaches, promenades and cycleways run alongside the road most of the way to St Maxime. Here, as well as a few beach-goers the sky is filled with fluorescent paragliders. After a few miles of seafront we discover St Maxime is still blighted with roadworks three years after our last jolly round the bollards here.
The first camperstop we selected was at Les Issambres. We find it OK, opposite a beach although it's a 'stop and go' type place - electric and water in a car park like compound. Not great for €12 and we're not too disapponted when we're waved away from the gate.
The ACSI book shows three sites in Frejus, 30 minutes away, take your pick. We choose the Flowers site at €15. Check in takes a while, it's really busy and Madame records every detail meticulously but we're soon onto a shady pitch and resting after a pleasant but tiring drive along the Mediterranean coast.
The evening stays warm as we plan our drive for tomorrow, opting to burn up a bit of toll road on our way to Italy.
CD of the day. No music today.
Dinner: Marinated pork steak, asparagus and butternut squash
