Well the hope for a better nights sleep was unrealistic. The truck that had it's generator going didn't leave and was noisy all night. The trucks were also noisy passing by on the highway. Oh well, what can you do hey?
So we woke, or should l say got out of bed, at 7:00am and were packed up and on the road by 8:15am. We were set Cairns today, so that meant another 369kms. I think everyone was looking forward to getting to a caravan park and staying put for a couple of nights.
At least the drive wasn't boring, the countryside is so beautiful with it national parks, canopies of trees and sugar cane fields. However, the amount of roadworks was unbelievable! I think we stopped for half a dozen and Marty's patience was wearing thin. The traffic controller at one site told us the repairs were all due to the floods, so we stopped whining after that. Meg didn't travel well, was naughty and whinging most of the way.
When we were driving thru the Innisfail region we were expecting to see some aftermath from the floods and cyclone Yasi but there were only a few remains of blown down trees and s couple of houses roofs with tarps on them.
After a frustrating day in the car we arrived at Cairns Holiday Park at 2:00pm. We set up then all headed over for a dip in the pool, was so needed and very refreshing. The climate has changed from a pleasant warmth to a little sticky with the humidity. Feel like a Victorian cause can't believe think the weather is warm and sticky and the wet season hasn't even started!!! Have definately noticed the weather change from hervey bay to here and maybe that's because we have moved so quickly in doing nearly 1600kms in 3 days!!! No wonder we all feel a bit b*****ed and over the travelling!!
The plan for next few days is to stock up on food and sort the Nissan out in preparation to starting our trip to Cape York. To be honest l think we would both like to chill here for a while before setting off but our time is running out before the wet season starts and we have to be out of the Cape by early October.
