Everyone got organized to leave early, we were all ready by 9am. It was another scorcher day and l think everyone was glad to be heading to a swimming camp site today. Plus the flys were giving Angie and Rod the s***s, was quite funny with them sitting around over the past few days with a fly swat killing all these flies whilst Marty and l sat unfazed by them all!!!
Anyhow, Marty started the car and then heard a fan belt squealing, the bloody air conditioner pulley bearing might be on it's way out too!!! What else cam go wrong? Weird cause we were only commenting on how well the Nissan faired up on the trip. Still not too bad in the whole scheme of things. We will just be taking it easy, nursing 'her' to Coen for repairs...
We headed off all a bit flat knowing we were on our way down 'the Cape', all were quiet. The corrogations started straight away and every bump was heard by the tension pulley bearing rattling. Marty cringed and cursed along the road out of Vrilya Point, it took around an hour then we were back on the development road which l don't think this was any better really. We took a left onto a short cut road following mistake creek to get us back onto the old tele track. It was slow going due to narrow roads and tight corners, the 9kms took us around half an hour to get through!
We made our way down old tele track, through Sam and Canal Creek. It felt like we were reliving our experience all over again, driving down memory lane. Felt quite surreal!
At lunchtime we arrived at fruit bat falls, with swimmers on ready and towels in hand we all hurried down to the falls for a much needed swim. It was heaven and still took our breath away with the falls looking as spectacular and glorious as when we first saw them. With no cameras on hand we were able to take in the moment and enjoy ourselves. The girls loved it and play fought with Angie and Marty, boo and Meg swam under the falls with me. Marty and l shared a quiet moment behind the falls for a kiss and cuddle! With us all refreshed we heated up our leftover apricot chicken and had lunch then pushed started Angie and Rod before making our way to cockatoo creek. This was to be our campsite for next few nights but when we arrived it wasn't as good as we remembered so decided to push on further for another place to camp. Drove to Gunshot creek and stopped for a few minutes remembering our fun times had here before getting up the chicken road and continuing on. Drove through Cholmondely creek before arriving at Bertie creek which looked like a good place to camp. There was a little campground right next to the creek amd it was getting late, a bit after 4pm. We had all had enough for the day and were in need of a swim as it was so hot travelling. We first set up camp while Angie and Rod filled their water tank up from the creek in their camper. Marty and l were so happy to see fresh water as we had run out of water days ago and didn't like relying on others, even though they didn't mind. After setting up we took a swim then l bathed the girls, washing their hair which hadn't been done for six days or so.... For tea Angie cooked us up a heap of meat which had defrosted in their freezer. Marty and l have made it a point that we will be taking them out for tea and drinks as they have been do generous to us.
After tea we got the girls to bed and because we only had two nappies left we decided this place was the best place to try Meg out with knickers overnight, cause of she had an accident then we could just wash everything in the creek. Fingers crossed!!
With the girls asleep Marty and l decided that it was time for a bath so headed down to the creek. It was around 10pm and was dark with a full moon giving us some light. We took a torch and scanned the creek beds for glowing eyes, with none seen l hoped in the slightly cold refreshing water. Marty took a bit of convincing, whinging about how cold it was. We shampooed and soaped ourselves until we felt brand new. A moonlight 'bath' at Bertie creek was just what was needed after a long day lol....
