Day 26. Memphis, Tennessee.
First thing this morning we headed out to a Suzuki dealer on the edge of Memphis to get our new tyres fitted. Memphis is clearly the poorest place we have visited so far. The roads reminded us of some of the conditions we experienced on our last sabbatical in Romania and Bulgaria - very bumpy and with big pot holes; and lots of the cars were old and beat up.
We'd agreed to wait at the motorcycle place while they fitted the tyres, but weren't expecting to be there for almost four hours. Mark's tyre had to be re-done as the wheel was initially put on the wrong way round. They also damaged his screen in the process - nothing serious but annoying. In hindsight we should have got all the tyres changed at Wheelers, back in Robbinsville (at the foot of the Dragon). Nevermind, the both bikes are now ready for another few thousand miles.
This afternoon we went for an explore around Downtown Memphis. First over to Mud Island where there is a half mile long scale model of the Mississippi and its tributaries. Then over to Beale Street, 'home of the blues' and full of bars and live music. Stopped for a drink and snacks at Silky O'Sullivans Irish bar, and saw the famous climbing goats!
