Day 58. West Yellowstone, Montana. Beautiful sunny day in Yellowstone, and much warmer than the last few days (despite being -6C at 07:00). Headed up towards the northern entrance to see the travertine terraces at Mammoth Hot Springs. The hot springs here aren't hot enough to create geysers, but instead deposit calcium carbonate when they reach the surface, creating white terraces. Day 57. West Yellowstone, Montana. A day of geysers today. We travelled to the Upper, Middle, and Lower Geyser Basins and saw a lot of geyser action. Some geysers set off every few minutes whilst others may only go once or twice a week. Some of them explode only every few years. They seem to change frequency depending on the earthquakes that happen round here (not that we've felt anything). We topped off the day by visiting our friendly bear sanctuary and seeing...

Day 56. West Yellowstone, Montana. Spent the afternoon at the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Centre - a home for 'problem' (ASBO) bears, where they get the bears to test bear-proof containers.

Day 55. West Yellowstone, Montana.Another cold day today and snow on the roads, so ....... we've swapped vehicles! We now have a Chrysler 300C from Hertz for the sojourn around Yellowstone. We'd booked a good reliable Toyota Corolla, but were upgraded - much to Jane's disappointment! Headed over the pass today into Yellowstone and we were toasty warm all the time.
