We were now heading to Stellenbosch in South Africa spitting distance from Cape Town and the end. Today was a mere 5 to 6 hours in the truck getting up at a more sensible time and having breakfast had a good effect - people where actually awake.
Springbok was the lunch stop - reputed to have the ugliest people on the entire journey. It was a creepy desert outpost place, everyone shouted at you in a similar way to a rough place in the UK at pub closing time on a Saturday night. They were indeed not blessed in the looks department and seemed to have spent a lot of time at the only eatery - KFC.
As the desert reseeded mountains flanked us on both sides, we were in wine tasting country. We stopped off at a vineyard on the way to spend the night and have some wine tasting. For b***** all we spent the night in front of an open fire getting sloshed on good wine and food - bliss.
Stellenbosh is rather posh, it has more than one restaurant that served edible food and places to drink; it even had statues. The place we stayed was not (Stumble Inn), it had a fantastic bar just big enough for a few people and three people behind the bar. It had a homely feel to it, the place looked like it was painted by a midget as the top half was painted in one colour and the bottom four foot was another. I pointed this out and they said that it was indeed painted by someone really small. It was fantastic as they had good music taste and were a good laugh - helped along by some potent spirits.
Stellenbosh turned out to be just the ticket - we were in civilisation again. The reason for being here was to spend a day wine tasting. Some of the vineyards had amazing views of jagged mountains and was relatively lush.
After a days wine tasting - a night club (forgot what they are) seemed to be a good idea. A pole in the middle of the dance floor seemed to be like a magnet for me and lots after me.
