The next big place was Okavango delta (not Chobe). On the way there we stayed at a camp site that was partially underwater. What was interesting was sitting in the dark at the abandoned bar that was half in the water checking for crocs with our head torches as we drank our bottled beers. It was a bit worrying as you tended to start to forget to keep checking.
We took a flight over the delta - very pretty, others did the boat trip so we were left in a s***ty camp site for two days getting to new levels of boredom. I did go on a walk in the bush and arrived at the river where I caught a local doing nude fishing. On the way back I saw the second chameleon and was then caught up by the fisherman who told me at length about the risk of snakes and other stuff (he did not speak English at all but this did not deter him)
On the way to Namibia we stayed at a place Negepi camp that due to the floods was now an island. We had to get a boat to take us there. The place itself was just my style - mad!!. The toilets sum up the place - they had names and different themes. Signs for the gents and ladies both led to the same set of toilets - basically two toilets side by side with his and hers written above them and not partitioned etc. There was no door leading to the toilets so you had to make your presence known. The his toilet had the seat padlocked in the up position and the hers toilet had pink trimmings. The showers overlooked the very beautiful river. The owners were very chilled, I caught one of them looking at tracks near my tent next to the river - said they were hippo - but do not worry.
The first place with decent music and camping at the waters edge put me into a high. This with the desire to save money resulted in a bottle of cane spirit being produced. I did not have any mixers so I drank the cane spirit neat from the bottle. That night was the most drunk I have ever been as I did not remember going to my tent, crashing in to it and having hick ups for a few hours - it was a fantastic night what I remembered.
I had to get up at 6am to prepare breakfast for the others- amazingly I made it. However after saying do not give me a knife they sent me back to my tent.
Going back from the camp to the truck on the boat we saw two or three river facing cottages. There was no river facing side, you could see the bed and bath tub - all done very nicely.
A burning hot day and someone playing s*** music did not help the travel day to Namibia. We bush camped out at a national monument a large bayobab tree (spelt wrong). Fire flies, camp fire and an amazing night sky made me feel a bit better.
